Repatriation:

United States: Are you a US Citizen stuck overseas? Contact the US embassy located in your current location . Be patient and if you haven’t already done so apply for the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program so they can contact you. Also note that these flights are not FREE , you will have to sign a promissory note promising to pay for the flight. And remember the government knows where you live, you will not be able to skip out on this payment.

Canada: Again here contact the local embassy for help and repatriation flights.

United Kingdom: Repatriation flights are being offered as well but you have to reach out to the UK embassy in your local area. Here’s some information for the embassy in Argentina

Hotels:

Many hotels are updating their policies, follow up on each policy before you depart on your trip

IHG (Holiday Inn, Indigo, etc) - waiving cancellation fees for IHG hotels worldwide - click here for official policies

  • At Home with Six Senses - IHG’s brand Six Senses is offering at home wellness with their wellness experts, click on the link for more informaiton

Marriott ( Marriott, Renaissance, etc)- The largest hotel chain worldwide is waiving cancellation fees even for prepaid rates- click here for official policies

Hilton (Embassy Suites, Hilton, Double Tree, etc)- Hilton’s policy is allowing changes and waiving cancellation fees for bookings up to June 30, 2020. This includes non refundable bookings. You must cancel or rebook at least 24 hour hotel’s local time before travel, also note that prepaid reservations may take 30 days to see the refund. See more information on their policies here

Check to see if your hotel is still open before you depart on your trip. Many hotels are closing either temporarily or permanently

Cruise Lines:

Royal Caribbean- They’ve introduced their Cruise with Confidence program where you can cancel up to 48 hours before your sail date and receive a future cruise credit for 2021. This policy pertains to sailings departing by September 2020

If you were originally set to sail on any sailings through April 30, 2020, the sailings have been suspended but you have two options with cancellations, either a refund or the choice of a Future Cruise Credit where you end up getting 125% of the price paid as a credit for a cruise in the future. They are also offering a refund within 30 days for the taxes and fees of your current sailing and any amenities that you prepurchased.

Silversea Cruises - various sailing dates are still happening, check the website for more details of what’s sailing and not sailing.

Norwegian - Sailings are suspended until May 15, 2020. Future Cruise Credit are being offered with a value of 125% and any bookings made by April 14 they are offering an additional 20% discount on sailings taking place October 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

Their website also notes the following policies for refunds- if your suspended sailing was scheduled to embark:

  • Between April 12 - May 10, 2020, you will be able to request your refund through the form starting April 13, 2020.

  • Between May 11 - May 14, 2020, you will be able to request your refund through the form starting April 20, 2020.

AmaWaterways- Suspending all sailings set to embark until June 30, offering Future Cruise Credits up to 115% of the value of the funds on all purchased services, this includes land, air, cruise, etc, redeemable on all Europe, Asia and Africa sailings up to an embarkation date of December 31, 2022. If you don’t use the Future Cruise Credit by then they will refund the original payment.

Airlines:

Complete List via Conde Nast Traveler - This is the most comprehensive list we’ve been able to find so far.

Refunds: Many airlines are offering refunds but you have to ASK for it verbally AND follow the steps they have instituted.

  • Jetblue: As of 3/7/2020 Jetblue was accepting this request verbally and it took about 2 days to see the credit to our cards.

  • American Airlines: As of 3/8/2020 American Airlines required that completed a an online form AFTER requesting refund verbally.

    • Update on 3/10: If you qualify for a refund it may take up to 7 business days

Lounges:

Priority Pass- Check online to see if your lounge is open before arriving. They are also offering a 3-month extension on current memberships, check your email to see if you’ve received it. If you don’t have a Priority Pass, use our link here to save 10% on your purchase

Border Crossings:

4/15- Planning on a flight in the summer, check to see if the airport in your destination will be open. Here’s a list of airport restrictions, always check with the tourism boards as well for updated information. Keep in mind these are all subject to change.

Bahamas Nassau Airport - As of 4/15 airport is still closed to incoming flights

Mexico -As of 4/16 you can still travel to Mexico but nonessential travel is discouraged
