Cabo During the Pandemic

Now that you know how to travel during the pandemic let’s chat about our trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Can we say that this was one of my favorite trips? It was absolutely perfect!

Let me start off by saying social distancing was not a problem as the number of tourists in Cabo has greatly reduced since the pandemic. This is especially true since after Mexicans themselves US travelers are the second biggest tourist group and many are avoiding making the trip. Still, there were plenty making the trip as the flight on Delta from Atlanta to Cabo was packed even with the middle seats being blocked.

Where to Stay in Cabo San Lucas

We enjoyed a fully equipped 4 bedroom Garden View Villa with a private pool at Esperanza Hotel. It was most certainly large enough for social distancing and great for relaxation as you spend your nights enjoying the pool and jetted hot tub. If you haven’t done so before, do download Whatsapp to your phone in order to make contacting your concierge easy. Our concierge Romel, was instrumental in setting up dinners and transportation for us. He was also able to get us a birthday cake on short notice all via Whatsapp.

Need a smaller room? Try the Casitas and Suites option at Esperanza or try their sister resort Chileno Bay.

Best Places to Eat in Cabo San Lucas

Flora Farms

A must if you want to eat at the famous restaurant. Be sure to visit their garden and boutique shops near the restaurant. I grabbed the pizza it was good but I had expected more Mexican dishes on the menu. The restaurant was packed but all dining tables were arranged in a socially distanced manner, only the bar was a bit too crowded for my liking. They even had live music in place.

Comal

By far our favorite restaurant. Located at Esperanza’s sister property Chileno Bay it is only a shuttle ride away from Esperanza. There you can enjoy some great seafood in an outdoor restaurant.

Esperanza

If you opt for the Villas you’ll have the option of Cocina Del Mar for all meals and Palapa for lunch and afternoon snacks. I enjoyed the ceviche and tacos from Palapa, but the cocktails there weren’t worth it. Go to Cocina Del Mar for the cocktails or order from room service.

A few things to note while dining is that now during the pandemic, reservations are a must for most restaurants. Additionally, restaurants closed up early and some bar seating removed.

What to Do in Cabo San Lucas

Definitely hop on the ATV tour to Migrano Beach with Real Baja Tours. I took the tour with them and it certainly was the road less traveled. Real Baja Tours is a smaller company that offers off-roading adventures. While they didn’t get the big crowds that the other companies had when we were there they definitely took care of us. Our tour leader Dimitrio was very attentive and helpful in helping us maneuver the terrain which was scenic and will keep the thrill-seekers at the edge of their seats. Do bring cash with you to buy your pictures they are well worth it.
